Hepburn and Sons to invest $18.1M in Prince William, creating 80 jobs

Manassas-based defense engineering and consulting company Hepburn and Sons will soon invest $18.1 million to establish a new corporate headquarters in Prince William County, creating 80 jobs.

According to a Monday announcement from Gov. Abigail Spanberger, the new headquarters will be located on 1.2 acres of land along Discovery Boulevard in Innovation Park, a 1,500-acre corporate research park anchored by George Mason University.

The Prince William County Department of Economic Development and Tourism said in a separate announcement that groundbreaking on the 27,000-square-foot headquarters will take place in early 2027, with the project completed in summer 2028. The new headquarters will include a 2,300-square-foot conference center.

According to the governor’s office, the site will serve as an innovation hub for future defense technology development. The company is undergoing the expansion in response to increased demand for defense contracting services.

“Hepburn and Sons’ decision to establish a new corporate headquarters in Prince William County is a strong vote of confidence in Virginia’s workforce, defense innovation ecosystem and business climate,” Spanberger said in a statement.

Founded in 2010 by the Hepburn family in Manassas, Hepburn and Sons is a Virginia-based defense engineering and consulting company specializing in technology development, mission systems and advisory services for commercial clients, government agencies and the U.S. military. Veterans make up the majority of the company’s workforce, which now comprises more than 60 employees.

“We are incredibly proud to reach this point of growth so we can now deepen our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Virginia,” Hepburn and Sons President and CEO Scott Hepburn said in a statement. “Our new building is more than just an expansion of our physical footprint; it’s a testament to our dedicated team and the support of both our local community and state leadership. We are excited to bring more high-tech career opportunities to the area and contribute further to the local economy.”

Hepburn and Sons did not immediately return requests for comment.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the county to secure the project for Virginia and will support Hepburn’s hiring through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program. Spanberger also approved a $400,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist with the project.
