William H. Fralin Jr. announced this week he is stepping down from the Virginia Port Authority (VPA) Board of Commissioners. His last day is today, Friday, Aug. 16.
He was appointed to the board by Gov. Bob McDonnell on July 2011, for a five-year term. Fralin served as chairman of the board from Nov. 27, 2012 to July 31. He was succeeded by Jeffrey D. Wassmer.
Fralin led the board through the determinative phase of a recent offer to privatize the cargo operations at the VPA terminals.
“It was a process that took a lot of time, research, analysis and the like, and in the end it was the board's firm belief that we made a decision that was in the best interest of the Commonwealth and one that set up The Port of Virginia to continue to grow into the leading port on the US East Coast,” Fralin said in a statement. “I leave knowing the port is the envy of its peers on this coast: The Port of Virginia has a very bright future.”
Fralin is president and CEO of Medical Facilities of America, in Roanoke. He served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2004-2010, representing the 17th District.
