Murphy has built a decade-long career at Sentara Health, one of Virginia’s largest employers. Before leading the $13 billion integrated health system’s $200 million corporate services modernization plan, she was Sentara’s chief of staff. She also is a board member for An Achievable Dream, a nonprofit organization focused on K-12 academic success, and graduated from the Lead Virginia program in 2024.
KEY TO MY SUCCESS: The key to my success is my ability to bring clarity and structure to complex, ambiguous challenges. I keep the quote, “Do what you can with what you have where you are,” displayed in my office as a reminder to stay grounded in action and service.
SOMETHING SURPRISING ABOUT ME: People are often surprised to learn that my first job was unloading hay on my family’s farm in upstate New York — land that’s been in my family for more than 250 years.
