The commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Taxation reminded employers/payers Wednesday that the final date to submit 2020 withholding records is Monday, Feb. 1.

The final date to submit withholding records is typically Jan. 31, which falls on a weekend this year, and the deadline was moved to Feb. 1.

“If you’re an employer or payer in Virginia, we strongly encourage you to make sure your withholding records are accurate and up-to-date, and are filed on time,” Tax Commissioner Craig M. Burns said in a statement. “Filing in a timely manner has a number of benefits: It helps you to avoid penalties; it gives us more time to take steps to verify information and prevent fraud; and it may help a number of your employees, retirees or customers receive their refunds faster without having to submit any additional documentation.”

Employers/payers can submit withholding information electronically one of two ways: through a  file-based system that accepts multiple file types or through fillable electronic forms, which has no files or signup required.
