Virginia’s Fortune 500 companies

In June’s Fortune 500 rollout, 24 Virginia corporations made the list, including two newcomers and three departures. Last year, Virginia had 25 companies on the prestigious annual ranking of publicly owned businesses.

Top-ranked among Virginia-based companies on the Fortune 500, as usual, is Freddie Mac, the federally sponsored mortgage business, which was at No. 33, rising five spots from 2025. According to Fortune’s tally, Freddie Mac reaped $131.68 billion in revenue last year, up nearly $10 billion from the previous year.

Arlington County-based defense contractors Boeing and RTX swapped places on the list, with Boeing at No. 47 and RTX at No. 49.

It marks a significant upturn for Boeing, which sank to No. 63 in 2025, a reflection of poor sales after the highly publicized January 2024 midair blowout of a wall panel in a Boeing 737 Max 9 jet cabin.

New to the list is Arlington’s Venture Global, an exporter of U.S.-produced liquefied natural gas that saw a meteoric rise from No. 670 in 2025 to No. 328. Co-founded by former investment banker Mike Sabel, Venture Global reported $13.7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2025, up 176.9% from the previous year.

Chantilly-based Amentum, a spinoff of AECOM’s Management Services that acquired PAE for $1.9 billion in 2022, debuted on the list this year at No. 313. Meanwhile, Henrico County’s Arko and Reston-based Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) dipped below 500 this year but remain on the Fortune 1000 list in 2026. And QXO Building Products, which purchased Herndon’s Beacon Roofing Supply for $11 billion in April 2025, no longer has a Virginia headquarters.
