SUMMARY:
Data center owner and developer QTS Data Centers has signed a 77,000-square-foot office lease at Reston Station, where it plans to establish its headquarters.
Founded in 2003, QTS has historically been headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, although its website more recently listed its U.S. headquarters in Sterling. Post the move to Reston Station, the company plans to maintain its presence in Sterling and Overland Park, Kansas.
QTS owns and operates data centers across North America and Europe and has grown into one of the industry’s largest providers since its acquisition by Blackstone in 2021. Its customers include companies, enterprises and government entities. Both of the company’s CEOs live in Virginia, and the company has been active in Northern Virginia and eastern Henrico County in recent years.
In July, QTS ended a two-year legal battle over the Prince William Digital Gateway project, which a circuit court judge voided in 2025 after nearby homeowners sued the data center campus’s developers and the county over public notice requirements. In Central Virginia, QTS purchased Lumber Liquidators’ former 1 million-square-foot facility in eastern Henrico County for $104.75 million in 2024, and the company also operates multiple data centers in White Oak Technology Park nearby.
“As QTS continues to grow, we are making long-term investments in our people that support our growth plans and provide an unparalleled employee experience,” QTS Co-CEO Tag Greason said in a statement about the move to Reston. “Reston Station’s premier location, accessibility and vibrant business community make it an ideal home for our headquarters.”
Building owner Comstock Holding Cos. announced the lease Monday for 1800 Reston Row Plaza. QTS will occupy the building’s entire 11th, 12th and 13th floors.
Comstock declined to disclose the lease’s financial terms or length but said it expects QTS to take occupancy within the next 10 months. The roughly 322,000-square-foot building is now about 90% leased, with approximately 25,000 square feet of office space available.
“Several factors made Reston Station the right fit for QTS: its position as one of the most prominent transit-oriented, mixed-use developments in the mid-Atlantic; the quality of the office space itself, including trophy-class, sustainably certified towers; and the surrounding neighborhood — walkable access to dining, fitness, residential and retail — that supports employee recruitment and retention,” Comstock spokesperson Melanie McKee said in an email.
She said QTS locating its headquarters at Reston Station reinforces Comstock’s strategy to turn the site into a hub for technology, AI and digital infrastructure companies.
QTS isn’t the only prominent company to establish a headquarters at Reston Station. In November 2025, Booz Allen Hamilton announced it would relocate its global headquarters from McLean to The Row at Reston Station, leasing approximately 310,000 square feet across two office buildings, including space at 1800 Reston Row Plaza. Reston Station is a 90-acre mixed-use development centered around the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station on the Silver Line.
