Defense tech company Innovative Defense Technologies will soon invest $19 million to expand operations and create 210 jobs at its Arlington County headquarters, Gov. Abigail Spanberger announced Friday.
Founded in 2006, IDT helps the Department of Defense integrate, test and field new capabilities by using automation, advanced integration tools, and digital engineering to streamline complex systems. It is based at 4401 Wilson Blvd. in the Ballston neighborhood.
It was not made clear whether the expansion would involve construction, and the company did not immediately return requests for comment Friday.
“Innovative Defense Technologies’ expansion in Virginia is a reflection of our position as a leader in advanced technology — and a shared commitment to strengthening our national security,” Spanberger said in a statement. “This investment will create hundreds of high-quality jobs for Virginians as we continue to prove why defense, technology and innovation continue to be among our commonwealth’s top strengths.”
According to the governor’s office, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Arlington County to secure the project, and Spanberger approved an $800,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund. The company will also receive workforce training support at no charge through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
“The mission we support is complex and Virginia has been central to how we execute that work, with deep technical talent and close proximity to the customers we support every day,” IDT Chairman and CEO Bernie Gauf said in a statement. “We appreciate the commonwealth and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership for their support as we expand.”
According to LinkedIn, the company has approximately 375 employees. Beyond Arlington, it also has locations in New Jersey, Massachusetts and San Diego.
