Melvyn D. Schiavelli has been named interim president of Northern Virginia Community College.
His appointment by Glenn DuBois, chancellor of the Virginia Community College System, will take effect on March 15.
Schiavelli replaces Scott Ralls, who will be president of Wake Technical Community College in North Carolina in May.
Schiavelli currently is executive vice president at the college, where he oversees academic and student services.
This appointment represented the second time that Schiavelli has served as interim president.
VCCS will launch a national search for the next president of Northern Virginia Community College, a process which typically takes six to eight months to complete.
Schiavelli will not be a candidate in that search.
