2026 Virginia C-Suite Awards: TIM SKEEN

Since joining Sentara Health in 2020, Skeen has led a multiyear transformation of the organization’s technology, data and digital capabilities to support operations and growth. He oversaw Sentara migrating its electronic health records system to the cloud, generating $5 million in annual cost savings. He deployed virtual nursing across all 12 hospitals, supporting 73 units and 1,720 beds and freeing bedside nurses for more direct patient care.

He has driven AI governance and strategy, including the use of tools such as DAX Copilot, speeding up clinical documentation. Skeen also helped launch OptaFi, a joint venture that brings Sentara’s cloud transformation expertise to other healthcare organizations, and he oversees more than 1,700 employees and a $600 million annual budget.

A graduate of Rice University with more than 30 years of experience in healthcare and technology, Skeen previously held leadership roles at Anthem, Amerigroup and Molina Healthcare and was a 2023 Capital ORBIE Healthcare CIO of the Year honoree.
