Appalachian Power offers a variety of solutions and programs designed to help businesses become more energy efficient while reducing overall operating costs. Through customized programs tailored to a company’s specific needs, businesses of all sizes can take advantage of incentives, rebates and expert guidance to make workplace upgrades more affordable and efficient. Whether you operate a small business or a large commercial facility, Appalachian Power is committed to helping customers identify the best opportunities for energy savings and improved performance through its commercial and industrial programs.

One of the primary programs available is the Business Energy Solutions (BES) Program, which helps businesses conserve energy, improve commercial spaces and save money through energy-efficient upgrades. The BES Program provides cash incentives for both lighting and non-lighting improvements, helping businesses offset the upfront cost of projects while creating more productive and comfortable work environments. Eligible customers can receive incentives of up to $100,000 for lighting projects and an additional $100,000 for non-lighting upgrades, which could total up to $200,000 in available incentives for qualifying improvements.

Lighting can account for nearly 40% of a business’ total energy expenses, making lighting upgrades one of the most effective ways to lower utility costs. Appalachian Power encourages businesses to install energy-efficient lighting systems that reduce electricity usage, minimize maintenance and support long-term savings. Eligible lighting projects include LED exit signs, recessed lighting, refrigerated case lighting, high- and low-bay luminaires and more. Businesses may also receive rebates faster by working with experts within Appalachian Power’s approved contractor network, helping projects move smoothly from start to finish.

In addition to lighting improvements, the BES Program also offers incentives for upgrading non-lighting equipment. Businesses can earn rebates by replacing outdated commercial equipment with energy-efficient models, including refrigeration systems, kitchen equipment and HVAC units. These upgrades not only reduce energy consumption but also improve reliability and overall business operations. Most non-residential customers located within Appalachian Power’s Virginia service territory qualify for participation in the BES Program.

For smaller businesses with a peak monthly demand of 200 kW or less, Appalachian Power also offers the Small Business Direct Install (SBDI) Program. This program is designed specifically to help small businesses improve efficiency with minimal hassle and greater incentives. Exterior lighting upgrades often qualify for especially high rebates, making it an ideal time for businesses to invest in energy-saving improvements. Additional upgrades, such as occupancy sensors, can help reduce operating and maintenance costs while improving comfort and productivity in the workplace.

Through the SBDI Program, Appalachian Power can also provide free quick upgrades and assist businesses with identifying additional rebate opportunities. Business owners can schedule a Quick Energy Checkup to learn more about how their facilities can benefit from energy-efficient improvements and available incentives.

Every step toward energy efficiency can make a meaningful difference for your business. With programs designed to simplify upgrades and reduce project costs, Appalachian Power makes it easier than ever for commercial and industrial customers to save energy and money.
