The U.S. Navy awarded Virginia Beach-based QED Systems Inc. a potential three-year, $229.4 million contract to help the branch develop specifications and implement an availability strategy for multiple naval ship classes, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday.

QED Systems will perform support work referred to as “third party planning services” for the Navy’s guided-missile destroyer and cruiser ships as well as landing helicopter assault and dock landing platforms, according to the DOD.

The majority of the work for the contract will be performed in Norfolk, with additional work to be completed in San Diego and Everett, Washington. The contract is expected to be completed by 2023.

More than $2.8 million is being obligated at the time of the award.

Founded in 1969, QED is an engineering and technical services company that works with both government and commercial clients. The company employs more than 500 people.
