Transportation 2023: PERRY J. MILLER

This summer, Miller was elected 2023-24 chair of the Alexandria-based American Association of Airport Executives. The world’s largest professional organization for airport managers, the association represents roughly 7,000 executives from about 875 airports and authorities. Miller also leads the Capital Region Airport Commission, which owns and operates Richmond International Airport (RIC), a position he’s held since 2019.

In July, RIC received the Most Efficient Airport in North America award from the Air Transport Research Society, the airport’s first time receiving the honor. RIC set monthly air traffic records in March and April, seeing 393,355 passengers in April, the airport’s second highest passenger count ever. For the first 10 months of this fiscal year, passenger traffic increased 13.7% year-over-year, a gain of more than 425,000 passengers.

Named Virginia Airport Manager of the Year in 2021 by the state aviation board, Miller previously served as interim CEO of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority in Jackson, Mississippi, where he also served as chief operating officer. He worked for more than 25 years in various management positions with William P. Hobby Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Ellington Airport, all part of the Houston Airport System.
