California-based Rosendin, which bills itself as the largest employee-owned electrical contractor in the United States, plans to invest $14 million to lease and upfit a 124,000-square-foot facility at the Lakeridge Logistics Center in Hanover County.
The company plans to hire 250 employees over the next three to five years, according to a Tuesday news release.
“We’re excited that our facility in Hanover County will serve as a hub for Rosendin’s regional electrical contracts moving forward,” Matt Orosz, Rosendin’s senior vice president for the east region, said in a statement. “Rosendin is fortunate to have great relationships with so many companies in the Greater Richmond area, and we look forward to expanding our presence here to better collaborate with our partners.”
While the company will be hiring support staff, a “significant amount” of the openings will be for electricians, according to Hanover County Economic Development Director Brandon Turner.
Turner expects the facility will be open for business by the fall. “It’s a pretty straight build out,” he said Wednesday.
Plans for the facility will include a 5,000-square-foot training space, which will be used for employees as well as trade and public school students who want to learn about careers as electricians.
“They’ve been pretty adamant from day one that they want to partner with schools and other other workforce partners in the region,” Turner said. “So that’s another positive.”
Rosendin is a $5.6 billion employee-owned company that builds projects for manufacturers, health care systems, airports, hospitality groups and technology companies. It’s helped with projects such as the Mustang Solar Plant – Battery Energy Storage System in Kings County California and the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Data center and manufacturing work in Central Virginia is behind the company’s new location in Hanover County, according to Turner. The company also has a facility in Northern Virginia.
Although a press release refers to the first phase of the project, there are currently no concrete plans for a second phase, according to a statement by Rosendin. “We see a market that may require more offices and supporting spaces for the amount of work in the region,” the company said in a statement.
The Greater Richmond Partnership and Hanover County Economic Development helped secure the investment.
“Greater Richmond’s information technology supply chain community is growing thanks to investments from international and domestic firms, such as Rosendin,” Greater Richmond Partnership President and CEO Jennifer Wakefield said in a statement. “The services that Rosendin provides, and the community engagement that the company strives for, makes the region a richer place for our residents.”
Raleigh-based Wigeon Capital developed Lakeridge Logistics Center in 2024 as a speculative industrial project, which included two buildings for a total of 250,000 square feet. The building Rosendin is not leasing is occupied by Trane U.S., L&C Cabinetry and Riverstone Logistics.
