The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA) saw a traffic increase of 17.7% increase from December 2018 to December 2019, the airport announced Tuesday. For the year, ROA saw an 8.9% overall increase in passenger traffic — more than 719,000 passengers flew in 2019, compared to 660,000 in 2018.

In December 2019, 61,827 passengers flew via ROA, giving the airport its 27th consecutive month of passenger growth. On a daily basis, 300 more passengers flew through ROA, with a total increase of an additional 9,329 passengers just in the month of December.

“Our carriers have added capacity at ROA and our customers have utilized it, which has led to carriers adding more capacity and hopefully new destinations,” said Timothy T. Bradshaw, executive director of the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission. “Robust air service is a critical component for economic growth in the region.”

ROA serves more than 710,000 per year via American Airlines Inc., Delta Air Lines Inc., United Airlines Inc. and Allegiant Air. There are nonstop flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
