Charlottesville-based Relay Foods is growing again. The online grocer is investing $710,000 to expand its Richmond fulfillment center, a move that’s expected to create 75 new jobs.
In a statement, Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s office said Relay’s expansion was to accommodate increased demand for its products and to support the company’s entry into new markets in Virginia and beyond. Relay’s goal is to increase mid-Atlantic sales by $3 million over the next three years.
Relay is an online grocery store and farmers market that offers Virginia-based products. The expansion includes investments to its primary warehouse and a new warehouse it plans to build in 2016.
McAuliffe approved a $50,000 Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund for the project. Relay has committed to purchasing at least $406,000 worth of Virginia products over the next three years.
This marks Relay’s second expansion this year. In June, the company announced it would create 25 jobs in Charlottesville. The $735,000 expansion would expand Relay’s Charlottesville fulfillment center and corporate headquarters.
