The Port of Virginia announced Monday that it is moving two weekly container services to its Portsmouth Marine Terminal.
The move comes as the Port of Virginia continues to try to mitigate congestion as it handles record levels of cargo at its marine terminals, which are facing increased pressure from the large size of vessels calling on the port.
The services include:
-CMA CGM’s Liberty Bridge service, connecting the U.S. East Coast with Northern Europe, which will start calling at PMT on Wednesday.
-The ATL 2 / TA2 service, a new partnership between Mediterranean Shipping Co. and Maersk Line, connecting the U.S. East Coast with Northern Europe – will begin calling on Portsmouth around Jan. 30.
The port is undergoing a variety of measures to provide better turn-times for trucks visiting the marine terminals. The port announced in September that it was reopening PMT to container traffic to help relieve traffic at Norfolk International Terminals and Virginia International Gateway in Portsmouth (formally known as APM Terminals).
