Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, a chain of franchised pizza restaurants, will open its newest location in Richmond’s Carytown shopping area on May 20.
Locally owned and operated by Scott Douglas, the restaurant will occupy the former Plan 9 Music space at 3012 W. Cary St.
Besides hand crafted pizza, hoagies, salads, and appetizers, the menu will offer craft beers.
Also on the menu is unique artwork. In keeping with its location, the restaurant will have a music wall, displaying history from the original Plan 9 Music space, along with a collection of musical artifacts.
Local artist Michael Broth has designed a “time mural.” Another local artist, El Kamino, designed the restaurant’s façade with a display of time-keeping devices, such as clocks and sundials.
Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, founded in 1974 in Atlanta, has more than 100 locations in the U.S.
