Bon Secours Virginia Health System says it will break ground later this year on a new community health education facility in Richmond’s East End.
The project, which will be known as the Center for Healthy Communities, will be located at 2600 Nine Mile Road. Bon Secours plans to transform a vacant gasoline station into the new center, which will offer health education, outreach services, disease prevention and group treatment for chronic diseases.
Bon Secours also plans a 25,000-square-foot medical office on Nine Mile Road, across the street from the new community center, as part of an expansion of its nearby medical campus at Richmond Community Hospital.
The company’s role in helping to address economic and health issues in the East End, where some residents live in poverty, began in 1995 when the nonprofit took ownership of the Richmond Community Hospital. Since then, Bon Secours has rebuilt the hospital, and expanded staff and clinical services.
