Bon Secours names Richmond market chief clinical officer

Dr. Peter Charvat is the new chief clinical officer for the Bon Secours Richmond market, the health system announced recently.

In this role, Charvat will focus on clinical practices across the Richmond market, including standardizing best practices in patient care and medicine. He will report to the former Richmond market chief clinical officer, Dr. Mark Townsend, who was promoted as chief clinical officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health’s Providence Group.

He has served more than 20 years as a physician executive, most recently as the chief medical officer and vice president at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Prior to that, Charvat served as vice president and chief medical officer of Johnston Health – UNC Health Care in North Carolina. He has also served as a physician and chair of the emergency medicine department at St. Cloud Hospital in Minnesota.

Charvat earned his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine and holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Colorado Denver.

He also is board-certified in emergency medicine and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
