Israeli energy company plans U.S. headquarters in Arlington

One of Israel’s largest renewable energy companies, Energix Renewable Energies Ltd., will establish its U.S. subsidiary’s headquarters in Arlington County, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Thursday.

The company plans to invest $1.1 million and create 33 jobs, according to the governor’s office. CadenEnergix’s office will be in a building owned by another subsidiary of its parent company, Alony-Hetz Properties. Virginia has a close relationship with Energix, which has three current solar projects in Virginia representing $130 million in investment and six more ready for construction at approximately $200 million. Northam met with its officials in Israel last November during an international trade and marketing mission, and former Gov. Terry McAuliffe also held a meeting with the company in 2016 in Israel. The Virginia Israel Advisory Board, a state-funded group established in 1986 to bring Israeli companies to the commonwealth, has maintained close ties to Energix.

“Virginia’s competitive advantages continue to attract international companies seeking to establish their U.S. headquarters, and we are pleased to welcome Energix to Arlington County,” Northam said in a statement. “Energix has an impressive portfolio of projects in the United States, and we are confident that the company will contribute to our Clean Energy Virginia initiative to create good-paying jobs and drive new investment in this burgeoning industry.

Energix was founded in 2009 and is a public company traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. It owns more than 1 gigawatt of projects in various stages of development and has a market value of more than $2 billion.

“I applaud Gov. Northam for his leadership in renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions,” Energix CEO Asa Levinger said in a statement. “Despite these unprecedented times, Energix just completed its first three projects with a total investment of approximately $130 million and is committed to expanding its operations in the commonwealth.”

CadenEnergix also has utility-scale solar energy projects in Arizona, North and South Carolina, and West Virginia.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the VIAB and Arlington County Economic Development to bring the project to Virginia, which was competing with North Carolina and South Carolina. VEDP will support Energix’s job creation with the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which assists companies with consulting and funding to support recruitment and training at no cost to businesses.
