Alexandria-based SBG acquired by Fla. company

Alexandria-based defense contractor SBG Technology Solutions Inc. has been acquired by Florida-based Document Storage Systems Inc. (DSS), the companies announced last week.

The financial terms of the deal, which was completed Sept. 8, were not disclosed.

SBG will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of DSS and expand the company’s capabilities for the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies. The Alexandria company focuses on IT modernization, cybersecurity and other tech services in national security.

“DSS Inc. has a deep legacy of supporting the VA and other federal customers, and this acquisition marks the beginning of a new chapter for SBG — where we will have additional resources for product and service expansion,” SBG President and CEO Tom Felten said in a statement. “Our combined capabilities will help bring the most comprehensive IT services and solutions offering to the federal government.”

DSS is a health information software development and systems integration company started 30 years ago, and SBG was founded in 2004.

Carlos Del Toro, SBG’s former president and CEO, was sworn in as the 78th secretary of the Navy in August, as only the second Latino man to lead the U.S. Department of the Navy. Before being appointed as secretary, Del Toro led SBG for 17 years and was the first commanding officer of a guided missile destroyer. Felten was previously SBG’s chief operating officer.
