Lafayette has been with the Richmond Association of Realtors for nearly 16 years, representing more than 6,800 Realtors in Central Virginia. She also serves as CEO of the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service.
An advocate for affordable housing, Lafayette previously was executive director of regional nonprofit The Partnership for Housing Affordability and now serves on its board. She has been a reliable source for media outlets seeking perspective on the surging housing market.
A William & Mary religion graduate, Lafayette also undertook postgraduate studies at Yale Divinity School and the University of Virginia. After college, she worked as a speechwriter for then-Lt. Gov. L. Douglas Wilder and served as his first press secretary after he became governor. She joined the Richmond Association of Realtors in 1993.
Lafayette also chaired the Maggie Walker Community Land Trust, served on the Better Housing Coalition board, and was a gubernatorial appointee to the Virginia Housing Commission.
