Hilton dropped off the elite Fortune 500 list in 2021 amid a massive revenue drop brought on by the pandemic, but it’s homing in on a return, rising from No. 596 to No. 538 on this year’s Fortune 1000 list.

Hilton has about 7,000 hotel properties in 122 countries and territories. It opened 76 new hotels during the first quarter of 2022, with another 2,730 in the development pipeline. The company reported
$1.7 billion in revenues for the first quarter, up from $874 million for the same period in 2021. But a tight labor force continues to hamper the industry; in a May earnings call, Nassetta, who has led Hilton since 2007, acknowledged “significant issues” remain, even as workers return.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Nassetta previously served as CEO for Host Hotels & Resorts Inc. He serves on the board of CoStar Group Inc., is a member of the Federal City Council and serves on the Arlington Free Clinic’s community council.

As the crisis in Ukraine unfolded, Hilton donated up to 1 million room stays across Europe to support refugees and relief efforts.
