Shannon, who began serving as interim CEO of UVA Community Health in October 2021, became the health system’s permanent CEO in November 2022.
A division of UVA Health, UVA Community Health was formerly known as Novant Health UVA Health System. It has three community hospitals in Manassas, Haymarket and Culpeper, as well as a network of primary and specialty medical practices and outpatient centers. The medical staff has more than 850 physicians representing 60 specialties and subspecialties and has 2,500 employees. UVA Health acquired Novant Health UVA Health in July 2021 after running the system as a joint venture for five years.
Before serving as interim CEO, Shannon was a partner at Grant Thornton, where he helped lead the transition to integrate UVA Community Health into UVA Health. He has more than 30 years of health care experience.
He is responsible for day-to-day patient operations, partnering with UVA Health leadership and community leaders, and integrating UVA Community Health entities into UVA Health, including aligning medical record and IT systems.
