McAllister Mills Inc. said Wednesday it plans to invest $1 million to expand its textile manufacturing operations in Grayson County. The move will create 16 jobs and retain 43 existing positions.
Independence-based McAllister Mills will purchase and renovate a vacant 33,000-square-foot facility that will house new automation and equipment. The firm makes heat-resistant textile products, including insulation blankets, fabrics, tapes and ropes. Its merchandise covers a temperature range from 0 degrees Fahrenheit to 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit.
The state's Tobacco Commission approved $110,000 in funds for the project. McAllister Mills is eligible to receive state benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program. The Virginia Jobs Investment Program also will provide funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities.
Virginia competed against North Carolina for the project.
This is Grayson County’s second new job announcement in 2015. Oak Hall Cap & Gown recently announced an expansion in Independence, where it would invest $1.2 million and create 100 jobs in establishing a textile manufacturing operation.
