A year after graduating from Georgia State University in 1986, Apruzzese began his career at AT&T. He started in accounts payable, worked in corporate security and then worked his way up to regulatory and external affairs.

Apruzzese became AT&T’s Virginia president in 2010, overseeing public policy. He’s also the philanthropic face of the company, which supports projects like a refurbished laptop donation initiative for the Danville Church & Community Tutorial Program.

From 2019 to 2021, AT&T invested more than $700 million in its Virginia telecommunications networks, including nearly $110 million in Richmond and nearly $70 million in Hampton Roads. Apruzzese also points out the company’s support for FirstNet, a high-speed broadband network built for first responders.

A former commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Apruzzese is part of the AT&T Veterans Employee Resource Group. He also serves on the board of nonprofit Jobs for Virginia Graduates and is an advisory board member for the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University
of Virginia.
