The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) awarded McLean-based DynCorp International a potential five-year, $352 million contract to provide depot-level aircraft maintenance services to support the department’s wildfire control operations, the company announced Thursday.
Under the contract, DynCorp will help CAL FIRE maintain its fleet of 57 fixed-wing vehicles. Work will be performed at McClellan Park in Sacramento, California.
“We are excited to continue our critical mission support to make certain the firefighting aircraft are maintained and mission ready to help support the firefighters and keep the residents of California safe,” Jeff Cavarra, DynCorp program director for the CAL FIRE program, said in a statement. “This year, from Jan. 1 to Oct. 25, CAL FIRE saw an increase of nearly 2,700 fires and millions of acres burned over the previous 5-year average during the same time interval.”
CAL FIRE will add seven C-130H air tankers to its fleet during the contract, and DynCorp will also provide full flight operations, including pilots for CAL FIRE’s fixed-wing fleet of aerial firefighting aircraft. Aircraft maintenance services includes repair, overhaul, modification and manufacturing of airframes, engines and propeller helicopter rotating components, according to DynCorp.
“DI is proud to continue our support for CAL FIRE, saving lives, property and natural resources throughout the state of California,” DynCorp CEO George Krivo said in a statement.
Founded in 1951, DynCorp provides aviation, logistics, training, intelligence and operational services.
