The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded Reston-based Fortune 500 defense contractor Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) a position on the department’s potential five-year, $620 million Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) multiple-award blanket purchase agreement (BPA), SAIC announced Wednesday.

Under the BPA, SAIC will compete for USDA task orders for IT support services for the development, modernization, enhancement and maintenance of information systems, software applications, web services and databases. SAIC is one of five companies that will be competing under the BPA.

“We are excited to expand our current services to USDA under this new contract supporting the FPAC’s important mission to mitigate the significant risks of farming through conservation programs and technical assistance,” Bob Genter, SAIC president of the defense and civilian sector, said in a statement.

SAIC through the BPA will also provide services including conservation planning, conservation financial assistance, conservation practice standards and conservation practices design and implementation.

“This program allows the USDA to deliver efficient and effective systems, applications and software for FPAC to generate, manage and share data, technology and standards that enable partners and policymakers to make decisions informed by objective and reliable science,” Genter said in a statement.

SAIC employs more than 25,000 people and has pro forma annual revenues of $7.1 billion.
