Canline Systems, an international supplier of conveyor systems for the packaging industry, will open its first U.S. facility in Roanoke County. The plant is expected to create 25 jobs during the next three years.
The Netherlands-based company is expanding to the U.S. to be closer to customers, including the Ardagh Group, which announced last week that it’s investing $93.5 million to locate a metal can manufacturing plant in Roanoke County. Ardagh supplies containers to the food and beverage industry.
Canline Systems designs and manufactures automated product conveyor systems that typically can move 2,400 cans per minute.
The company plans to design, manufacture and assemble the systems at a new 10,500-square-foot facility at 6525 Commonwealth Drive in southwest Roanoke County.
It expects to be in operation and will begin hiring assemblers by Oct. 1.
“Canline is a well-known international supplier to the packaging industry, and we’re delighted to announce plans to be located in Roanoke County,” Frans Augustijn, owner/CEO of Canline Cos., said in a statement.
The ripple effect from Ardagh has not been lost on local officials. “Canline is an example of how the location of one company, in this case Ardagh, spurs additional economic development,” said Michael Altizer, chairman of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors.
In addition to the U.S., Canline Systems also has automated can production lines in Europe, Africa and Asia.
