Running a restaurant isn’t for the faint of heart. From watering holes to white linen, many restaurants close within the first year.
Despite these odds, Kevin Healy took the gamble 25 years ago on a small restaurant in Southside’s Brandermill neighborhood. Sunday’s, now known as The Boathouse, became a Richmond tradition.
The restaurant, situated on the shores of the Swift Creek Reservoir in Chesterfield County, has become a place to grab an ice cream, watch a sunset, or hold a wedding.
Healy credits guests’ feedback for the restaurant’s success. “Listening to our customers has guided many of our decisions,” Healy said, in a statement. “It’s one of the reasons we have been able to adapt and improve over the years.”
In addition to The Boathouse, Healy opened The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing in 2007, on the banks of the James River near downtown Richmond, and Casa del Barco early this year, just off downtown’s Canal Walk.
