Sheltering Arms Hospital and VCU Health System are planning a topping out ceremony Wednesday for their $95 million rehabilitation facility in Goochland County.

The 114-bed Sheltering Arms Institute, a joint venture between the organizations, is scheduled to open in spring 2020. Crews began construction on the facility, located on 25 acres in the West Creek Medical Park off Broad Street, in May.

The steel frame has been erected and over the next several months, the framing will be completed and the exterior walls will be installed.

The joint venture combines inpatient beds from both organizations to create a hospital for individuals who have survived strokes, spinal cord injuries or brain injuries, as well as those in need of general rehabilitation or various neurological diseases and disorders.

Sheltering Arms has two rehabilitation hospitals and 10 outpatient centers. It also provides outpatient services and community-based programs that include recreational therapy and fitness.  VCU Health System treats patients at several area locations. All outpatient services will operate separately for now and into the foreseeable future.
