The Austin, Texas-based National Academy of Construction (NAC) on Thursday elected John R. Lawson II, executive chairman of Newport News-based W.M. Jordan Co., as a member of its 2020 class.
Lawson in 2018 stepped down as president and CEO after 32 years leading W.M. Jordan, which his father founded in 1958. During his tenure, the company grew from $25 million to more than $500 million in annual revenues.
NAC recognized Lawson as an “experienced leader renowned for the development of a corporate culture of excellence, employee development and community involvement as well as academic advancement in higher education,” according to W.M. Jordan.
Lawson (a Virginia Tech alum) and fellow NAC member Ross Myers founded the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. Lawson has also served as a World President’s Organization board member and president of the Associated General Contractors of Virginia.
Established in 1999, the NAC is an organization for leaders in the construction industry. The academy currently includes approximately 200 professionals.
