Almost two dozen colleges and universities in Virginia made Forbes’ Top Colleges list, which features the 650 best colleges in the U.S.
Five Virginia institutions made the top 100: Washington and Lee University (No. 21), University of Virginia (No. 29) College of William and Mary (No. 44), Virginia Military Institute (No.87), and the University of Richmond (No.88). Virginia Tech, James Madison University, Hampden-Sydney College and George Mason University all ranked in the nation’s top 200. Forbes partnered with Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP) for The Top Colleges in the U.S. list. Five categories were used to calculate the rankings, including students’ satisfaction, debt, post-graduate success and graduation rate.
Two California institutions topped the list, Stanford University (No. 1) and Pomona College (No. 2). Princeton University in New Jersey followed at No. 3, Connecticut-based Yale University ranked No.4 and Columbia University in New York was No. 5.
