Virginia is for Wine Lovers.
Virginia is one of the most wine-friendly states in the nation, according to a report from the American Wine Consumer Coalition.
Virginia received an A+ on the report card, tying with five other states and Washington, D.C., for the best rankings among states. The other states scoring an A+ include California, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire and Oregon.
The report ranked states on six issues: the ability to ship wine to consumers’ homes from a winery and from a wine retailer, to purchase wine in grocery stores, to purchase wine on Sundays and to bring one’s own wine into a restaurant without a liquor license. The report also looked at whether the state had a monopoly on the sale of wine.
The following states received an F: Alabama, Colorado, Indiana, South Dakota, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Utah.
