Virginia has three fewer Fortune 500 companies

Virginia is now home to 19 Fortune 500 companies, down from 22 last year.

The list ranks the top public companies in the U.S., based on gross revenue. 

The companies that dropped off the list were Smithfield Foods (which was sold to a Chinese company in 2013), Leidos Holdings and NII Holdings.

Moving up on the Fortune 500 were CarMax, Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Dollar Tree, Gannett and Advance Auto Parts. Advance Auto saw the biggest jump, moving 108 spots since last year (In 2014, Advance acquired AutoQuest for $2 billion, making it the largest automotive aftermarket parts provider in North America). The rest of the Virginia companies dropped in rank.

The companies on this year’s list were:

Freddie Mac, McLean, No. 42, down from No. 32, 2014 revenue of $69.4 billion, down 14 percent

General Dynamics, Falls Church, No. 100, down from No.99, revenue of $30.9 billion, down 1 percent

Northrop Grumman, Falls Church, No. 124, down from No. 122, revenue of $24 billion, down 2 percent

Capital One Financial, McLean, No. 126, down from No. 124, revenue of $23.9 billion, down 1 percent

Altria Group, Richmond, No. 169, down from No. 161, revenue of  $18 billion, up 1 percent

AES, Arlington, No. 178, down from No. 174, revenue of $17.4 billion, up 4 percent

Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), Falls Church, No. 229, down from No. 185, revenue of $13.2 billion, down 14 percent

CarMax, Richmond, No. 232, up from No. 240, revenue of $13 billion, up 14 percent

Dominion Resources, Richmond, No. 243, down from No. 212, revenue of $12.4 billion, down 7 percent

Norfolk Southern, Norfolk, No. 256, down from No. 247, revenue of $11.6 billion, up 3 percent

Hilton Worldwide Holdings, McLean, No. 280, up from No. 289, revenue of $10.5 billion, up 7 percent

Advance Auto Parts, Roanoke, No. 294, up from No. 402, revenue of $9.8 billion, up 51 percent

Genworth Financial, Richmond, No. 304, down from No. 291, revenue of $9.6 billion, no change

Owens & Minor, Mechanicsville, No. 309, down from No. 303, revenue of $9.4 billion, up 4 percent

Dollar Tree, Chesapeake, No. 330, up from No. 342, $8.6 billion, up 9 percent

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Newport News, No. 390, down from No. 382, revenue of $7 billion, up 2 percent

Gannett, McLean, No. 441, up from No.481, 2014 revenue of $6 billion, up 16 percent

MeadWestvaco, No. 464 down from No. 457, revenue of $5.6 billion, up 1 percent

Booz Allen Hamilton, No. 475, down from No. 443, revenue of $5.5 billion, down 4 percent
