A Virginia Beach resort has gone into hibernation for renovations and a rebranding.

The Virginia Beach Resort Hotel & Conference Center closed on Nov. 5 and is planning to re-open in 2020. Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners LLC owns the resort and plans to give it a $25 million renovation.

Commonwealth Lodging Management LLC was hired in May as the property’s hospitality management and consulting firm. The firm is owned by Glen Allen-based Commonwealth Commercial Partners LLC, a commercial real estate firm.

The resort is planned to be rebranded as Delta Hotels by Marriott Virginia Beach Bayfront Suites. The resort is one of 52 Delta Hotels in the works for Marriott and is one of its newest brands. Delta Hotels are aimed to cater to business and leisure travelers.

Plans for the renovation call for updating all the guest suites, a lobby lounge and business center, improved meeting and event spaces, a grab & go pantry, a family friendly splash pad and an upgraded outdoor pool with new cabanas.

There are also plans for a new covered patio and a proposed restaurant called The Tin Cup, Oyster Bar and Grill.
