Virginia Bar Association installs new officers

The Virginia Bar Association has  installed Harry M. “Pete” Johnson III as its 127th president.

Johnson is a partner in the Richmond office of Hunton & Williams LLP.

Three other officers of Virginia’s first and largest statewide voluntary organization of lawyers and judges also have begun
one-year terms:.

• James Patrick Guy II of Richmond as president-elect,
• David S. Mercer of Alexandria as chair of the Board of Governors, and
• John L. Walker III of Richmond as immediate past president.

Johnson focuses his practice on environmental litigation. A VBA member since 1989, he served as chair of the organization’s Young Lawyers Division in 1998 and as chair of the board of governors in 2013.

Johnson serves as co-chair of the VBA Pro Bono Committee and was instrumental in organizing the Chief Justice’s Pro Bono Summits in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

He is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia School of Law.
