U.Va., William & Mary and Virginia Tech rank high in public university list

Three Virginia universities were ranked among the top 25 public schools in the latest “Best Colleges” rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

The University of Virginia tied for second, the College of William & Mary was sixth and Virginia Tech tied for 25th in the public school list.

The University of California-Berkeley was first on the list. U.Va. tied with UCLA for second. Virginia Tech was in a four-way tie with Rutgers, Texas A&M and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Overall, U.Va. was 23rd on the national universities list of public and private schools, while William & Mary was 32nd and Virginia Tech was 69th.

Among national liberal arts colleges, Washington and Lee University ranked No. 14 and the University of Richmond was No. 25.

James Madison was ranked No. 6, the University of Mary Washington was 13th , and Christopher Newport University was 18th among regional universities in the South.

Averett University was 23rd among regional colleges in the South.

Princeton was ranked No. 1 among national universities while Williams College held the top spot among national liberal arts colleges.
