The U.S. Navy awarded Arlington-based defense contractor Leonardo DRS Inc. and Virginia Beach-based VT Group positions on a five-year, $211.6 million contract to help the branch sustain its technical insertion equipment, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Under the contract, the two companies will produce, assemble and test Technical Insertion 2016 spare equipment, perform technical work and install ordnance alteration kits, according to the DOD. Services under the contract include procurement, harvesting and engineering tasks. 

Work will be performed in Virginia, Mississippi, California, Washington, Florida, New Jersey, Hawaii and Japan through December 2025.

Leonardo DRS also announced July 20 it won a $120 million U.S. Navy contract to provide engineering design and test software for aircraft protection systems.
