Commonwealth Architects is merging with another Richmond-based architecture firm, Architects Dayton Thompson & Associates PC,
to expand its architectural and interior design capabilities.
Financial details of the merger were not disclosed.
Commonwealth Architects, an 18-year old architecture, historic architecture, planning and interior-design firm, will expand to include Dayton Thompson employees in its Shockoe Slip office. The company currently has a staff of 27 that will expand to 36 after the merger.
“We have known Architects Dayton Thompson & Associates for many years and recently teamed with them on projects. Going forward, we are excited about the opportunities and synergy that this merger will provide. Commonwealth Architects’ diverse portfolio compliments the experience of Architects Dayton Thompson & Associates, and will help broaden our design capabilities in the years to come,” Lee Shadbolt, principal at Commonwealth Architects, said in a statement.
Dayton Thompson provides architecture, interior design, and master planning services. It has been operating in the region for 33 years. The firm's Club Source Design, which specializes in golf clubhouse and recreational facility design, also will be included in the merger.
With the merger, Commonwealth Architects’ design portfolio will expand into the financial institution, retail, institutional and golf-club markets throughout Virginia.
