Reston-based electrical contractor Truland Systems Corp. is expanding in the Ladysmith area of Caroline County.
According to Gary Wilson, the county’s director of economic development, Truland has leased a 115,000-square-foot office and industrial facility at 16517 Bull Church Road. It plans to invest about $4 million in machinery and $700,000 in building improvements so it can use the space to support the company’s electrical construction operations. Over the next few years the facility expects to hire about 50 employees.
Wilson said the property is currently occupied by LadySmith Floor and Lumber. “They’re changing their business model. They’re going smaller and moving north which made the building available. We’re trading 3 jobs for about 50 jobs. We’re pleased that the ninth largest electrical contractor in the country has chosen Caroline County.”
Besides its corporate headquarters in Reston, Truland also has offices in Alexandria and Richmond. It plans to move to Ladysmith round June 1. The site is centrally located in Truland’s service area and is close to Interstate 95.
Wilson said the county will reimburse the company for additional taxes on the building that will result from the improvements. Truland also could also be eligible for exemptions to the BPOL (Business, Professional & Occupational License) tax, he said.
