California-based Tesla Motors has opened its second supercharger station in Virginia. The new station is located at Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge.
The free supercharger stations allow drivers of Tesla’s Model S to charge the electric vehicle. According to Tesla, the stations provide up to 120 kilowatts of power and replenishing half a charge in twenty minutes.
Tesla plans to have the stations available to almost the entire U.S. population and parts of Canada by 2015. The first Tesla supercharger station in Virginia opened in Glen Allen in 2013.
Last year, Tesla reached an agreement with the Virginia Attorney General, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association allowing it to open a dealership in Northern Virginia. Currently, Virginia law states that a car manufacturer cannot have a license for a dealership unless it can prove that no other dealer is available. Tesla must still appear before the Virginia Motor Vehicle Dealer Board to get a license before it can open the store.
