The Wanchese Fish Co. in Suffolk is planning to grow rapidly over the next three years by adding staff and production capacity.
The company was bought by Cooke Seafood USA in 2015. Cooke plans to hire about 70 new employees over the next three years. These include jobs in a new corporate office and on new retail seafood production lines.
The expansions include more than $2.8 million in investment.
Since its acquisition of Wanchese Fish, Cooke has upgraded the Suffolk operation to handle increased seafood coming into the facility from other Cooke companies. The company said it has increased its exported products through the Port of Virginia and imports from Cooke’s South American businesses.
Cooke Inc. is a family-owned sea farming and wild fishery corporation. Cooke’s head office is in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, Canada. It ships fresh, seafood products to 65 countries.
