The Virginia Beach-based Virginia Institute for Sports Medicine will join Richmond-based OrthoVirginia on Jan. 1.
VISM specializes in the treatment of sports and work injuries, arthroscopy, fracture/trauma care, shoulder surgery, knee replacement, hip replacement, and foot and ankle care.

OrthoVirginia, a major musculoskeletal care and therapy practice, employs more than 100 physicians at 22 offices in Richmond, Northern Virginia and Lynchburg .
VISM was founded in 2003 by Dr. Patrick O'Connell, Dr. Brick Campbell and Dr. Peter Jacobson.
