Smithfield Foods Inc. has promoted CFO Robert W. Manly to executive vice president and chief synergy officer.

Manly’s chief responsibility will be to leverage opportunities and maximize synergies between Smithfield and Shuanghui International, which acquired the pork processor and hog producer last month in a $4.7 billion deal.

Manly will retain his responsibility for Murphy-Brown, Smithfield’s hog production operations.

Manly joined Smithfield as executive vice president in 1986. He has been president of Smithfield Packing Co., Premium Standard Farms and Murphy-Brown. He became CFO in 2008. He was assistant to the president of IBP Inc. from 1981 to 1986.

Kenneth M. Sullivan will become the company’s CFO. Sullivan joined Smithfield in 2003 as vice president of internal audit, became chief accounting officer in 2007 and vice president of finance and chief accounting officer in 2010. He previously spent 12 years at large public accounting and consulting firms.
