Sigal Construction Co. in Arlington has been selected to build a new $11.5 million Higher Education Center on the Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC).
Designed by Perkins Eastman, the 41,600-square-foot building will be a three-story steel frame structure with a glass curtain wall and brick and stone façade.
The second floor will extend over a campus pond and offer a walkway across the water to connect the building with the recently completed Learning Commons complex.
The new center will house classrooms, labs, common areas, a multipurpose room, and office space as well as a recording studio with control room. With the addition of the new project, NVCC plans to link up with other Virginia universities to offer bachelors degrees to its students.
The timeline for construction is about 15 months. Sigal says building systems will include an 80-well geothermal field and other energy conserving systems.
