Sentara Healthcare has broken ground on Edinburgh, a fast-growing planned development in the southern portion of Chesapeake.
“We want to be able to meet the community’s need for health care as the city grows,” Thomas Thames, president of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital and executive sponsor of the Sentara Edinburgh campus project, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the city of Chesapeake, where Sentara currently has physician practices, a nursing center, physical therapy and an outpatient campus in the Greenbrier area.”
A two-story, 60,000-square-foot medical office building is scheduled to open on the Edinburgh campus in the summer of 2016.
The Sentara Edinburgh campus will include primary care physicians and other skilled providers who comprise Sentara’s innovative personalized care teams, according to Gus Nicoll, vice president and chief operating officer of Sentara Medical Group.
