The U.S. Navy has awarded Reston-based Fortune 500 federal contractor Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) a $78 million task order to provide support services for mobility platform integration at the Expeditionary Department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Crane, Indiana, the company announced Tuesday.

Under the task order, SAIC will assist NSWC Crane with engineering and integration development efforts for the implementation of sensors, weapons, communications and diagnostic systems for the Maneuver, Surveillance and Engagement Division.

“We are excited to support mission systems integration into mobile platforms with our proven ability to fill gaps, handle project surges and use the inherent knowledge we have accumulated over the past 30 years to solve complex technical challenges,” Jim Scanlon, SAIC executive vice president and general manager of the Defense Systems Group, said in a statement.

During the one-year contract (with four one-year base options), SAIC will provide many service areas including research and development support, engineering, prototyping, system design documentation, system support, quality assurance, logistics and installation support.

“SAIC’s successful past performance and commitment means we can assure NSWC that we can meet the mission and achieve results for our customers and the warfighter,” Scanlon said in a statement.

SAIC employs more than 25,000 people and has pro forma annual revenues of $7.1 billion.
