Kelly Chopus will become executive director of the Richmond-based Robins Foundation on Sept. 3.

Chopus was director of community relations for Goodrich Corp., a Fortune 500 aerospace and defense manufacturer based in Charlotte, N.C.

She served as vice president of business operations for the former WNBA Charlotte Sting from 2002 to 2005 and as associate producer for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympiad.

In 2012, Chopus was awarded the Mover and Shaker Award by Business Leader magazine.  In 2013, The Mecklenburg Times named her one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Charlotte.

The Robins Foundation was established by E. Claiborne Robins Sr. in 1957, and it was significantly funded at his death in 1995.  Robins founded A. H. Robins Co., based in Richmond, and was its chief executive officer for 39 years.  Over the years the foundation has granted more than $85 million to qualifying organizations.
