The Heironimus Building in downtown Roanoke is being sold to The Monument Cos. and being converted into apartments and commercial space, including a restaurant.
The sale price for the 110,000-square-foot building located at 401 S. Jefferson St. has not been disclosed. The sale is expected to go through by September.
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer will be the leasing representative for the 25,000 square feet of commercial space. The remaining space will include 80 apartments, a pool and fitness facilities.
“We are in the fortunate position to be involved in the last major redevelopment project in downtown Roanoke and feel lucky to work with a great city in a market that has such an upwards trajectory,” Tom Dickey, principal at The Monument Cos., said in a statement.
According to The Roanoke Times, the building has been vacant since the departure of The Emporium shops, which operated there from 1997 until 2005. Prior to that, the property was home to The Heironimus department store for more than 80 years.
